The ancient Romans used many buildings for many different purposes. Some of these buildings were used as entertainment. One of these buildings is the Circus Maximus. This building was used for chariot races. The Emperor’s palace was located next to the Circus Maximus, so the Emperor could watch the races. The Circus Maximus is like the Kentucky Derby. One way they are alike is that both involve racing with horses. One way they are different is that in ancient Rome you rode on chariots while today you ride on the horse. Another building used for entertainment was the Colosseum. This building was used for gladiator fights. The people of Rome would come here to watch gladiators slay each other. The Colosseum is like the UFC. One way these are alike is that both involve fighting.A difference is that in the UFC you fight till someone is knocked out while in gladiator fights you fought to the death.The Theatre was used as entertainment, too. The Theatre held plays of acting, singing, and dancing. Plays were only held on holidays. The Roman Theatre is like Playhouse Square in Cleveland. One way they are alike is that both hold plays.
